Port of Sale Redevelopment

The Port of Sale, built in the 1880s, is currently undergoing a complete redevelopment which is expected to bring tourist traffic to the area.

With restoration of the Swing Bridge underway, the opportunity to reintroduce boating traffic between Sale and the Gippsland Lakes has become a reality.

The development of the port will focus on the tourism, retail, restaurant, commerce and leisure facilities.

Work began on the reconstruction of the Port in December 2003 and Stage 1 is expected to be complete by the end of August 2004.

Works will enable easy access to the port and enhance the appearance to fit in with the natural environment.

Jetties, Boardwalks, Street Lighting, Picnic Facilities, toilet block, BBQ area, upgraded roads and parking will be included in the redevelopment costing $2.5 million.

Further developments are planned for future years.
